maybe i'm naive, but i had no idea you could just burrow from one side of the earth to another with a huge drill. yeah...you can't. good thing i'm so damn logical.

i perused this website, and was like, "this is insane!"

and this. but wait...those bricks are curiously resting on that dirt. looks too clean to be real.

then i delved deeper and realized it's an art project, and almost true. you can, in fact see from one end of the viewing lens to another, from brooklyn to london... but i won't spoil it for you, you can read this article.

toxic slimy rainbow slugs...aka: nudibranchs. i had no idea! the second ones below look like clay. insane! national geographic has a feature and some beautiful photos by david doubilet. nature is amazing. thanks for killing it, humanity.

i can't even put into words how amazing and gorgeous i think this work is. i haven't seen something so unique and intricate and layered and beautiful in like...a long time. SO IMPRESSIVE! i'm kinda nerdy and without words right now so i will quote the entry from notcot.com:

The maps visually represent the rhythm and structure of Kerouac’s literary space, creating works that are not only gorgeous from the point of view of graphic design, but also exhibit scientific rigor and precision in their formulation: meticulous scouring the surface of the text, highlighting and noting sentence length, prosody and themes, Posavec’s approach to the text is not unlike that of a surveyor. And similarly, the act is near reverential in its approach and the results are stunning graphical displays of the nature of the subject. this note is from the bathroom of the office building i work in. pretty much every time i've gone into this certain stall for the past few weeks, there has been pee on seat. i have been hashing over a much less tactful note to display, but someone beat me to it.

you may be thinking to yourself, 'how do you know it's the same woman peeing on the seat?' it's just one of those things - i just KNOW. i see it once, i know the markings of the mystery woman. apparently ghost writer has this sixth sense, too.

i will preface this by first apologizing to my lovely friends who wear flip-flops. i'm sorry; i still love the shit out of you and do not think lowly of you for wearing them. but i do not like it when you wear flip-flops. they're white-trashy. and not even that comfortable; and i know that's your excuse. ok, if you're going swimming, and need to get bare-footed on a whim, flip-flops are ok. if you're camping, ok...yeah. at the beach, sure. but honestly: flip-flops are shower shoes. and PLEASE, it is NOT ok to wear flip-flops in a city like sf. you know what's on the ground. and you know that half an inch of foam is not going to protect the bottoms of your feet from being covered in transient feces, urine and/or being poked by the syringes of junkies. and when i see you wearing flip-flops and a big puffy jacket and scarf, that's as bad as the uggs and miniskirt combo.

it's pretty interesting that one of the hippest, most diverse neighborhoods in the country [not to mention one of the most expensive places to live] is also one of the most polluted and contaminated with toxic waste. here lives the largest environmental disaster in the history of nyc, the greenpoint oil spill. which is actually a leak from exxon mobile holding tanks that began 57 years ago; slowly letting 17 to 30 MILLION GALLONS of oil into the ground & nearby newtown creek (which empties into the east river, and then yay, into the atlantic). so not only is the oil under the ground and in the water, it is slowly making its way to the surface underneath homes in the greenpoint neighborhood, enough that residents can smell vapors coming from the ground. another really great thing about living in the willamsburg/greenpoint area is the sewage treatment plant and garbage storage facility. oh and the nuclear waste storage site. woo! let's move to williamsburg and live in a refurbished art loft and be another victim of brain and/or liver cancer!
